Overview
A young British family have recently acquired a Grade I listed historic Estate in the serene countryside of Herefordshire. They are looking to start building a household team, beginning with the recruitment of a full-time, live-in Head Housekeeper.
The household includes two small children, horses, dogs, and additional livestock on a large working farm. Applicants should be family-friendly and accustomed to rural environments. While the estate serves as the family’s primary residence, occasional midweek stays in their London property may occur.
The ideal candidate will blend traditional estate service standards with a warm, friendly, and modern approach to household management.
Start date: As soon as possible.
Job duties:
Responsibilities of the Head Housekeeper near Hereford include:
- General housekeeping maintenance of the large, listed property
- Recruitment and management of support staff for entertaining events
- Coordination and oversight of external contractors
- Procurement of household supplies and stocks
- Conducting the weekly food shop
- Running errands for the family
- Proactive property checks for necessary reparations
- Laundry duties
- Occasional pet care
Candidates must be/have:
- Strong experience in a similar private household/estate
- UK Passport holders/ have right to work in UK
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Strong communication skills and a good team player
- A clean valid driving licence
Accommodation
The Head Housekeeper will reside in a newly refurbished, one-bedroom apartment adjacent to the main house, boasting bright living spaces and a separate entrance. There is a possibility of transitioning to one of the estate cottages over time.
No pets or dependants.
Please note, consideration can be given to employing a partner on the estate, preferably in the gardens or agricultural team. However, this position primarily focuses on the Head Housekeeper’s role rather than a couple arrangement.
