Chief of Staff / House Manager

Overview

Our client is looking for an energetic Chief of Staff / House Manager who will provide valuable support to the Director of Residences and assist the Principal with their daily activities and the smooth running of their formal and established household.

The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills, be highly organised and experienced with managing staff, as they will be managing the housekeepers in the household. Please note, occasional light housekeeping will be required at times.

Job duties:

Responsibilities of the House Manager in Central London include:

  • Ensure the smooth running of the household and anticipate the principals’ needs
  • Manage the household budget and expenses
  • Liaise with management
  • Hire and supervise household staff; recruit and hire additional staff for auxiliary functions
  • Provide hands-on personal service for the principals
  • Manage household inventories and purchase necessary supplies, including groceries
  • Arrange and schedule services and vendors
  • Schedule and supervise new construction, maintenance, and interior improvement projects
  • Plan, host, and execute social events; arrange catering, decorating, and entertainment
  • Liaise and coordinate with security and transportation staff
  • Polite, courteous handling of phone calls and other correspondence; receive guests
  • Assist office staff in managing holiday gifts
  • Perform full-charge executive housekeeper responsibilities, including caring for museum quality furnishings, artwork, fine collectibles, antiques, etc
  • Assist with laundry functions, including ironing of all clothing and linens, care of fine garments, and assistance with packing and unpacking for travel
  • Provide additional personal assistant support as needed

Candidates must be / have:

  • Professional demeanour and appearance – courteous, honest, meticulous, and responsible
  • Discreet and respectful of employer’s privacy; willing to sign a confidentiality agreement
  • Team player, hardworking, and detail-oriented with strong organisational skills
  • Excellent verifiable references
  • Experienced in managing, supervising, training, and scheduling housekeeping staff; able to work well as part of an established team
  • Child friendly
  • Possess a sound knowledge of and ability to care for antiques, artwork, fine furnishings and clothing, crystal, fine china, silver, brass, marble, fine linens, cookware, etc
  • Demonstrates honesty, integrity, discretion, and good judgment
  • Willing to accept instruction and conform to the employer’s preferences
  • Tech savvy and familiar with email, Smartphones, MS Office, and Smart Home systems
  • Long-term intent
  • Energetic and in good health with the physical capabilities to perform the duties of the position
  • Well groomed, non-drug user, and willing to take a pre-employment physical, psychological exam and drug screen. No drinking or smoking on the premises
  • This position requires proof of good credit history. Employee may be asked to handle money or credit as part of this job. The credit report authorised by the signed FCRA the candidate provides will be used to decide regarding their employment. A poor report may result in elimination from consideration for this position

Hours and further details:

  • General schedule Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm
  • Must be flexible to the needs of the employer; occasional weekend hours or earlier/later start times may be required. The House Manager will share duties during seasonal or public holidays
